The lemon juice drink.
My method is to 3/4 fill a thermos with warm water, (I have a Wellness water filter (see Wellness Water Filter) which handles hot water so I can get this straight from the tap, if you do not have this luxury then add cold filtered water to your thermos, then top up with boiled filtered water). Add the juice of one lemon, this gives me two large mugs which I slowly drink on my balcony listening to the noises of the morning. Give me the benefits of cleaning out my system, not to mention the alkalising effect of lemon juice on the body. Now I am ready for that wonderful yummy breakfast that I spent 3 minutes preparing the night before.
Pre-soaked muesli.
The advantages of doing this are largely two fold. One it means that in the morning, often when time is short, your breakfast is ready to go, zero preparation required, but more importantly, the soaking process combined with the yogurt, pre-digests the dried fruit and oats making all these beautiful substances much easier for your body to assimilate ie digest. The Dates, Black Currants, and Goji Berries, add a beautiful sweetness to the mix meaning you do not need to add any concentrated sweetener like honey or sugar. The ground up Linseed and Sesame seeds, increase the consistency and add a lovely nutty flavour, and of course the Linseed/Flaxseed has the highest content of Omega-3, Sesame seeds are very high in magnesium they are also high in compounds that assist the body in making the Omega-3 more digestible.
If you have a dairy intolerance adding the juice of half a lemon, will assist the pre-digestion process in a similar way.
Omega-3 magic:- I use a dessert spoon of yogurt but most of the time I actually make up a mix of 50mls of Linseed oil into 1ltr of the yogurt, 200g of goats cheese, I also add 100g of ground of Linseed & 50g of ground up Sesame(which is also rich in the compounds that make the Omega3 more bio-available), which I grind myself and add immediately to the mix(see Fig.4,5,6 is it also shows the attachment on the hand-held electric mixer that I use). The Linseed & Sesame meal also serves the function of making the mix become thicker and easier to spread, a great butter substitute. (for more info. see Omega 3 Magic).
The ingredients.
Dates, these I just buy from wherever I can get them the cheapest, I do not bother to buy organic dates, they are very expensive and I do not believe that in this case they are worth the extra expense, but of course that is your choice.
You can now purchase sun-dried Black currants and Goji berries at the supermarket which is what I do. The oats I use are the Demeter brand which is organic and I get the fine rolled type, I also purchase organic Linseed and Sesame seeds. With the Linseed there seems to be three varieties golden brown, dark brown and very dark brown, I find the dark brown to have the nicest flavour. With the Sesame seeds the choice is to get unhulled or hulled, there is some literature that says that unhulled sesame seeds contain a compound that inhibits certain digestion processes, personally I believe that the soaking process overcomes this drawback and the unhulled seed has gone through less processes and also contains more fibre, but again it is a personal choice obviously.
I use the Jalna biodynamic full cream yogurt, healthy happy cows.
Fig.1 1/3 cup(100ml) of fine rolled oats; 3 chopped dates(I use scissors); 2 dessertspoons of currants; 1 dessertspoon of Goji berries; 2 dessertspoons of ground Linseed(Flax) & Sesame seed.
Fig.2 mix together then add 1-2 dessert spoons of yogurt or as I do a yogurt mixed see Fig.4. Mix together with water, then cover the bowl with a plate.
Fig.3 in the morning, ready to eat.
Fig.4,5,6 mix of 50mls of Linseed oil into 1L of the yogurt, I also add 100g of ground up linseed & 50g of ground up sesame seed, I now add 200g of Goats cheese, gives a richer creamier taste & the extra milk solid further aids in the body’s absorption of the Omega-3 from the flax seed oil.
