Insect Control - Sticky Insect Trap - Electronic Insect Trap

Insects indoors. If I grow things inside will it attract little black insects?
Yes, sooner or later these insects will appear, they are called fungal gnats and live off dead decaying matter. However by following a few simple procedures they can be kept to a bare minimum1- In most of our kits we include a yellow sticky trap, they are attracted to the colour and stick to it when they land, placed near your growing containers they will catch the majority of these critters. 2- Allow your growing medium to breath so it doesn't go mouldy, ie so the top layer dries out  a little, or leave it outside. 3- When you have finished with your sprouting pot or tray empty the contents and rinse your tray under hot water. 4-  this one is really optional and you should probably see how you go with the first three steps. Add a small quantity of Sodium Bicarbonate to your watering can, it works by changing the acid/alkali balance to slightly alkaline (no problem for plants big problem for mould).

Another solution which I am now using to great effect is an electronic insect trap. Unlike other products this does not electrocute the insects or poison them with insecticides, what it does is capture the insects into a compartment from which they cannot escape. Here you have two options either empty the chamber when it fills up or, which is my preference, simply take it outside and release the insects back to nature.
