A fantastic solution when done with our thermal cooker, or if you don't have one of these a cast-iron pot is also good.
Dates:- are one of the Very Alkaline-Yielding Foods and once they have been soaked or cooked they release such beautiful sweetness to your meal that no other sweeteners are required, a very big plus. They also contain a variety of B-complex vitamins – thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6 and pantothenic acid. These vitamins have a variety of functions that help maintain a healthy body – eg metabolize carbohydrates and maintain blood glucose levels, fatty acids for energy, and they help make haemoglobin, the red and white blood cells. Dates also contain Magnesium which is essential for healthy bone development and for energy metabolism, also high in Iron which is essential to red blood cell production. In addition, Dates are fat and cholesterol free.
Dates are one of the best natural sources of Potassium an essential mineral your body needs to maintain muscle contractions including the vital heart muscle. Potassium is also needed to maintain a healthy nervous.
Since potassium is not stored in the body, and much is lost in perspiration, it must be continually replenished. As you consume potassium you excrete sodium, helping to keep blood pressure down. As people age, their kidneys become less efficient at eliminating sodium. About a 400 mg increase in potassium intake has been associated with a 40% reduction in the risk of stroke. This roughly amounts to one additional serving daily of Dates.
Goji berries:- Goji berry is a sweet-tasting, dark-red coloured fruit, this fruit has extraordinary healing properties, it is considered as the world's most nutrient-dense food. For over 2,000 years Goji has proven to improve many health conditions and cure ailments. Goji is said to contain more vitamin C than oranges, more beta-carotene than carrots, and more iron than steak.
It is a common practice in Chinese medicine to prescribe it to treat liver, kidney, or eye diseases. Many Chinese people consume goji berries in their day-to-day lives because they believe that the red coloured berry can keep them healthy, young, and energetic. Goji is known as the "longevity fruit". Its unique master molecule polysaccharides and powerful antioxidants fight against free radicals that cause damage in the body. Goji stimulates the secretion by the pituitary gland of hGH (human growth hormone), the youth hormone. The benefits of hGH includes; reduction of body fat, better sleep, improved memory, accelerated healing, restored libido and a more youthful appearance.
Cranberries:- The proanthocyanidins in cranberries can inhibit bacteria from attaching to the wall of the urinary tract. This limits their ability to produce colonies and spread infection. Of course, your mother wouldn't be surprised by this news. She already knows that it's important to drink lots of cranberry juice if you are prone to urinary tract ailments.
Because they contain flavonoids, studies reported by WebMD Medical News suggest that cranberries can be a weapon in the war against atherosclerosis, or what they used to call "hardening of the arteries". Flavonoids help reduce the amount of bad cholesterol clogging the walls of your arteries while increasing the level of good cholesterol in your system.
Research at the University of Western Ontario cites increased ingestion of cranberries as a factor in inhibiting the development of breast cancer cells in animals. Although preliminary, this exciting research shows that diet changes can have an impact on our health and aid in fight disease.
Blackcurrants:- are very rich in many phyto-nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, essential fatty acids and minerals
In particular, black currants are renowned for their high content in Vitamin C (a powerful antioxidant), GLA (Gamma-Linoleic Acid, a very rare Omega-6 essential fatty acid) and potassium. They have been shown to have twice the potassium of Bananas, four times the vitamin C of Oranges, and twice the antioxidants of Blueberries.
Black currants contain anthocyanins, which are compounds naturally found in berries. They are very potent antioxidants and are responsible for the color of blackcurrants. Around 300 different types of anthocyanins have been discovered.
Anthocyanins inhibit the enzymes Cyclo-oxygenase 1 and 2, and reduce inflammation and the effects of arthritis in the body.
In addition, black currant seed oil contains 47% linoleic (18:2n6),14% alpha-linolenic (18:3n3), 12% gamma-linolenic (18:3n6), and 2.7% stearidonic (18:4n3) acids. Of these, gamma-linoleic is rarely found in any other natural resource, and both alpha and gamma-linoleic are essential fatty acids, which means our body cannot produce them on its own.
So what a great little group to help you start the day.
