Every 17 minutes, every drop of blood in our body flushes through the thyroid, and if the thyroid has an adequate supply of iodine, blood-borne bacteria and viruses are killed off as the blood passes through. Wakame seaweed has an abundance of Minerals, Nutrients & Trace Elements & 30grms of dried Wakame(150mls) contains 18mg of Iodine versus 0.1mg for 100 gms of Cod Fish. Seaweed also contains:- Laminarin a polysaccharide that is helpful in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It helps to balance coagulation of blood. Alginate a natural absorbent of radioactive elements, heavy metals, and free radicals. It has the unique ability of binding heavy metals and radioactive elements to its own molecules. Because the Alginate cannot be broken down by bile or saliva and cannot be absorbed by the body, it is secreted from the body together with the heavy metals and radioactive substances,as well as strontium 90 from the bones. Sea vegetables contain 10 to 20 times the minerals and vitamins of land vegetables. Gram for gram, they are higher in vitamins and minerals than any other class of food. The minerals are available in chelated, colloidal forms that make them especially available to the bodies of humans and animals, a concept known as "bioavailability." Pitchford, Healing with Whole Foods, Revised Edition, North Atlantic Books, 36, 1993) Seaweed in Salad:- add finally chopped shallots and garlic to the juice of one lemon, ground pepper, balsamic vinegar and a dash of soy sauce mixed with one tablespoon of honey, allow to sit for 10 minutes. Soak seaweed 5 mins then drain. Add all the ingredients together mix thoroughly and allow to stand for 10 mins the seaweed will continue to absorb the dressing, add a small amount of cold pressed olive oil and half cut cherry tomatoes and serve. This will keep well in the fridge for a week. Noodles:- Soak 250mls of Wakame(8 mins), add brown rice noodles(160gms) to boiling water(3 mins) strain & rinse with cold water(I cut them into shorter lengths, easier to mix with other ingredients), fry some garlic & onion, some snow pea sprouts, add noodles, seaweed & a small amount of hot water, 400g can of tuna or salmon(my pref), a dash of soy sauce stir until hot. Serves 4. Pasta:- same as for the noodles except this time I have added a can of coconut milk & some Malaysian curry powder, when I mix up the cuury powder with hot water I add a little soy sauce as well. Soups:- fry onion, add miso a little water and mix into a paste, add water Wakame and chopped shallots bring to boil then serve.
