Design your own free-standing plant stand, perfect option for the modern balcony or deck where space for plants is limited.
As you can see from the pictures there are many configurations possible, but it is quite simple once you have decided what it is you want. It comes partially assembled, assembly is just a matter of tapping pieces together with a piece of wood. We also supply you with some self adhesive rubber strip to allow you to adjust the stand for sloping surfaces.
There is also optional netting for Possum and Bird protection see Fig.7. If you do not have enough sun it can also be used inside where lights can easily be attached see Fig.9.
First choose your shelf type; there are two basic types to choose from.
The first type comes with a planter box, just choose the colour of your planter box & the shelf position.
The second type has stainless steel slats, it is designed for pot plants, or a different style planter box, just choose the shelf position.
You can also choose a double shelf which can be either a combination of a slatted shelf for pots and a shelf which contains a plant box see Fig.2 at the bottom. The other double option is where you have two shelves with two plant boxes see Fig.9.
Once you have decided your shelf type, the only other thing you need to decide is the distance between the shelves, we call these legs, and the options in centimetres are 60/40/30/18.5/10.
For example:-
Fig.1 from the bottom up, consists of 2xStabiliser Feet sections, 4x10cm legs support the first shelf; each shelf is then separated by 4x40cm legs; 4x(Single Shelf + Slats). This type of configuration is ideal for growing pot plants that are not too large or our vertical spouts e.g. Wheatgrass or Snow peas as seen in the picture. This stand would be 1.475m high & cost approx. $252.
Fig.2 consists of 6x40cm legs at the base (could have also used 6x18.5cm legs, the planter box would have been about 5cm off the ground or 30cm) supporting a double shelf combination with the planter box in front and pot plants behind, as long as the plants in the planter box are not too tall then plants on both shelves should get adequate light; 8x60cm legs separating the next two level a Single Shelf + Slats & on the top a Single Shelf + Plant Box. This stand would be 1.62m high & cost approx. $235.
Fig.3 consists of 4x18.5cm; 4x60cm; 2x(Single Shelf + Slats). This stand would be 0.75m high & cost approx. $114.
Fig.4 consists of 4x30cm; 4x60cm; Single Shelf + Plant Box; Single Shelf + Slats. This stand would be 0.90m high & cost approx. $116.
Fig.5 this picture shows you some dimensions you might want to consider when designing your plants stand.
Fig.6. consists of 4x10cm; 4x60cm; Single Shelf + Slats; Single Shelf + Plant Box. This stand would be 0.75m high & cost approx. $116.
Fig.7 shows you a two level stand for pot plants that has been covered with the netting options, protecting your valuable herbs from possums etc.
Fig.8 consists of 4x60cm; Single Shelf + Plant Box; & a 2nd Plant Box sitting on the ground. This stand + extra Plant Box would be 0.625m high & cost approx. $85.
Fig.9 consists of 18x60cm legs; 3xDouble Plant Box Shelfs ie 6xPlant boxes. This stand would be 1.84m high & cost approx. $362. In this picture you can also see that we have added the possibility of using clamp lamps so that you can use this to grow indoors. In this configuration you have approximately 30cm height for the plants in the Plant box on the ground, sufficient height for Rocket or other small Lettuce or baby Spinach. The next shelf has a growing height of 4.5cm and the top shelf 60+ cm which is sufficiently high for dwarf Tomatoes or Basil plants. With these clamp lamps you can use the new highly energy inefficient LED grow lights, or use the less efficient but cheaper compact fluorescent, as used in indoor growing systems seen on TV.
