The kit includes a 200x200mm Stainless-Steel Stand base & your choice of either a 595mm Anodised Aluminium Vertical tube total height of stand 605 mm or a 390 mm stainless steel Vertical tube total height of stand 405mm, a sticky insect trap, a Chrome clamp lamp, this lamp will fit our LED lights from 3W to 12W so choose the one that suits your needs and purchase separately. The light can be easily moved up and down to ensure maximum growth rate, allowing you to grow a wide range of leafy greens eg Snow pea, Sunflower, Cress, Mint, Rocket, Parsley etc, or using the 12W you can grow a small plant to flower and fruit. The bulb will last approximately 10 years at 10hrs/Day = 1.9 cents/day(globe cost) & at 7W = 0.8 cents/10hrDay (running cost). Total Lighting cost=2 cents per day.
You can also use it with a compact fluorescent we currently have 15 W compact fluorescent in stock, however if you are leaving them on for 10 hours a day you will probably need to change them once a year. In the picture we can see Snow Pea sprouts growing in a shallow self watering pot, remember this unit is not designed to grow tall plants the maximum height between the base of the stand & the tip of the light bulb is 500mm ie growing area. A shallow ie sprouting 165 diam. S/W pot is 100mm high, a 130 diam. S/W pot is 110mm high, a 170 diam. S/W pot is 140mm high. Tip:- if using the 130mm pot purchase a 170mm pot of the same colour & use its base ie reservoir, this means you don't have to water as much, bigger target when watering & easy to see when more water is required. Lenses - as you can see by the bottom picture, lenses can be easily changed just requiring a small Phillips head screwdriver(to purchase extra lenses see below). The reason you may need different lenses is that if you need to place the lights closer to the plant then spreading the light by using wider lenses will allow you to do this. You will also find this useful if you are using it to grow snow pea sprouts or other salad greens where you wish to accomplish it in the smallest possible area as possible i.e. having the lights as close as possible to the plant. Remembering that the more you spread the light the less the intensity, but the closer you place the light source to the plant the intensity increases.
Which lamps to choose:
If you are choosing to grow salad greens like Snow Pea Sprouts, Lettuce, Mint etc, then I would suggest you use the White light, this will give you very good results. If you are growing strawberries, ie something that you want to eat the fruit of, then you can change over to a red globe when the plant is ready to flower, the red dominant light will tend to promote flowering & fruiting.
Of course you can use the high power 12W lights, but they are a little heavier and need supporting using a cable tie, which is included. Because this light is designed to be moved up and down and kept close to the plant then the 7W globes should be more than enough for most situations. If you wanted to grow a plant to flower and fruit best to use the 12W globes.
