We supply two types of Peas, the one that you see in supermarket packages, labelled as a Snow pea with just a couple of small leaves and a long stem, this is actually a Field pea, but labelled as Snow pea for obvious marketing reasons. The advantage of the Field pea is that it is cheaper than the Snow pea and is harvested after 1 week(great if you have an event to cater for in 1 weeks time).
The other pea is a dwarf variety of Snow pea that is best left for 2.5 weeks, the advantage of this variety is that it will produce a large group(4 sets) of deep green leaves, this is basically three to four times as much as the Field pea, however it does take longer and costs more. In this kit we include 450g of each so you can make your own decision as to which one is best for you, or as I do, grow both. This abundance of nutritious leaves that melt in your mouth gives you a delicious nutritious base for any salad(also great to add to a stir-fry). The Seaweed that we use is Certified Organic & is extracted at lower temperatures than other products, meaning that more of the naturally occurring plant growth hormones remain active, it also contains Potassium Humate which comes from Gippsland in Victoria, described as 50 million year old compost, the best of its type in the world, containing a rich abundance of prehistoric minerals and trace elements. The seaweed comes from storm carst kelp freshly collected on the coast of Tasmania. Kelp is the grass of the sea-world, it contains many of the micro-nutrients necessary to sustain life.
We also include Magnesium Chloride the importance of this element in the health of the body cannot be overstated. The highest quality Magnesium available, this ancient mineral is extracted from the lower layers of the Zechstein prehistoric sea(250 million years old), we mix this in with the liquid seaweed. It can also be used as a salt substitute i.e. mix with water & spray on your food or trans-dermal i.e. rub on your skin or use in a foot bath. Magnesium is the central atom in the Chlorophyll molecule, which has almost the same structure as Haemoglobin i.e. the red blood cell, another reason why greens are a must.
We supply 8ltrs of premium grade fine washed loose coconut fibre, premixed with Azomite and Dolomite this mix is designed for growing seedlings which means it is fine textured without any lumps which makes it very easy to spread.
· Azomite a mineral and trace element supplement for plants and animals. It is not a typical rock dust. It is a very complicated product in the sense that it contains 67 + chemical elements, along with trace and rare earth minerals. The product is a natural volcanic ash, it has been subjected to rigorous testing and has been approved for use in large-scale Organic Plant and Livestock production in the US. Adding this to our fertilizer soup, means that if the seeds didn't contain it, & the Seaweed/Humate didn't, then we certainly have it covered now.
· Dolomite is finely crushed limestone a mix of Calcium and Magnesium(36%), ensuring that your wheatgrass and sprouts, and therefore you, have a high level of Calcium and Magnesium, in a form that your body can easily absorb. As well as keeping the whole environment alkaline.
To do this you will require a sunny window, or use one of our low power light growing kits, and 10-15 minutes once a week for replanting, assuming you replant 2 pots once per week.
With this kit you get 0.45kg of Snow Pea seeds, 0.45kg of Field Pea seeds, 8ltrs CocoFibre(Mixed with Azomite&Dolomite), 6 (blue, yellow, white or black) shallow self watering round pots(165 diam x 90h) with detachable saucers, 2 x rectangular trays, 1ltr of liquid seaweed concentrate, a 1ltr plastic sauce bottle(to make it easy to pour your liquid seaweed), 140gmMgCh, a sticky insect trap and detailed instructions and tips.
We have now included a couple of rectangular trays in this kit, the main reason for doing this is that we have found that the simplest procedure with regard to watering, is for the first 6 days, fill the base/reservoir of the individual s/w pots 3/4 full, most of this moisture will be absorbed into the CocoFibre by the end of this time, now transfer the s/w pots into the trays. This makes watering a lot simpler, firstly you can easily see when water needs to be added, remember the trick is not to over water, so let the tray go dry before adding more water. The extra bases can now be used for Micro-Greens (Broccoli, Radish, Mustard, Cress), see picture at the bottom right.
If you are going to grow these inside next to a sunny window then have a look at the stainless steel stand, or clear Perspex stands, see below, which has been specially designed with staggered shelf heights to make the most use of this valuable space. Plant Stands
If you are a growing outside you will still get great results it's just that in the cooler months it will take longer. Our modular aluminium plant stand with stainless steel slats using 40cm gaps between each shelf, gives you a very good option for doing this outside, it has options for keeping possums and other hungry creatures away. If you do not have a sunny spot inside or out then the lighting kits, again see below, will give you perfect results all year round.
