Broccoli Seeds - Organic 450g |
450g of Organic Broccoli seed for growing Broccoli Sprouts, as you can see in the pictures, very high germination rates. Broccoli sprouts, like Cress, Mustard, Radish, Wasabi, is a member of the Brassica family which are renowned for their high content of antioxidants. Scientific research has discovered an abundance of powerful phytochemicals in the Brassica family which kill free radicals, & are considered to be some of the most powerful anti-cancer substances known. In countries, where a daily intake of Brassica vegetables is routine, statistics show low rates of cancer.
Broccoli sprouts are best grown in shallow trays, see our Micro-Greens sprouting kit below, in the picture we have used loose coconut fibre with a teaspoon of liquid Seaweed & Magnesium chloride, mixed with Azomite & Dolomite. They can also be grown in our sprouting colanders see our Loose Sprouting kit below, however they do tend to be a bit slimy so they will need rinsing at least twice a day.
If you're buying broccoli for its anti-cancer properties then I would like to suggest that you have a close look at the radish sprouts, see extract below, apart from this they are cheaper and have a higher germination rate than the broccoli, they also produce a lot more green and bigger sprouts, they can also be sprouted both as a vertical sprout an as a loose sprout they are great mixed with alfalfa. The radish is not organic however I would suggest that by the time you eat the sprouts they are a long way towards being organic probably much more so than much of the organics you eat.
“When sprouts are consumed fresh (uncooked), however, the principal degradation product of broccoli is not the isothiocyanate sulforaphane, but a nitrile, a compound with little anti-cancer potential. By contrast, radish sprouts produce largely the anti-cancer isothiocyanate, sulforaphene. The reason for this difference is likely to be due to the presence in broccoli (and absence in radish) of the enzyme cofactor, epithiospecifier protein (ESP). In vitro induction of the phase 2 enzyme, quinone reductase (QR), was significantly greater for radish sprouts than broccoli sprouts when extracts were self-hydrolysed. By contrast, boiled radish sprout extracts (deactivating ESP) to which myrosinase was subsequently added, induced similar QR activity to broccoli sprouts.”
The implication is that radish sprouts have potentially greater chemoprotective action against carcinogens than broccoli sprouts when hydrolysed under conditions similar to that during human consumption."
The 450g is so it weighs less than 500g so we can ship to anywhere in Aust. for around $6.

According to a recent article on Sprouts in the New Vegetarian and Natural Health magazine, it has been estimated that you would have to eat 1kg of broccoli each week to reduce the risk of colon cancer by 50% but broccoli sprouts have such a concentrated level of anti-cancer components that you need only have around 35g per week to get the same result.
