Why not use shallow self watering pots?

Your first question might be why not use the shallow self watering pots for this purpose, and the answer is you can, in one respect the S/W pots are easier because you do not have to worry about watering, but having said that there are some advantages in using the shallow trays. Firstly because the seeds are tiny they only need a very small amount of growing medium, the S/W pots are about twice as deep, so they can support the larger root systems of seeds such as Wheat and Snow peas. Also because the seeds are very tiny and become sticky when moistened they are best spread on the surface and not covered with any growing medium, thus further reducing the amount of growing medium required, they are generally ready to eat after about a 10 days, depending on growing conditions so they may only require one or two extra waterings after the 6 day germination phase. Another advantage is that it is easier to cut the smaller sprouts in these trays, all simply explained in the instructions. Personally I use the shallow self watering pot to grow Snow Peas, Field Peas, Wheatgrass, Sunflower Seeds, and I use the rectangular trays to grow these smaller seeds.

Why can’t you grow these seeds as loose sprouts, we suggest that it's best to grow these type of seeds in a growing medium, the reason being is because of their small size and the slimy nature of the seed husks, in a loose sprouting environment it becomes hard to separate the small shoots from the seeds, ie if you make the holes small enough so that the tiny shoots will not slip through then you will find it hard to get rid of the seed husks, and in that environment if you do not, then the sprouts will go off very quickly.

4 Spice Jars, these containers make it very easy for you to sprinkle the seeds evenly across the growing medium.

A 750ml Spray Bottle, this is supplied to make it easy for you to spray the top of the seeds before covering them up for their germination phase.

4 Rectangular Trays OR 4 Round Trays + 2 germination lids, these are the trays that you use to grow the sprouts in, they are 150 mm wide by 470 mm long, as can be seen by the pictures they fit perfectly into our various plant stands. We give you four of these so you can use one or two at any time as a cover, this is required to keep the seeds moist during the germination phase, one option would be to do one tray every week, so at any one time you have three trays growing one of which is in the germination phase with one tray being used as a cover. See related items below if you would like more trays. Or you can choose to have 4  black round trays(200mm diam.) & 2 clear germination covers. So which one to choose, they are both pretty much the same, the rectangular trays will give you slightly more quantity, and being narrower width will sit more easily on a windowsill. The round trays with their clear cover are slightly more elegant and fit our vertical stand, see below.

0.5ltr Seaweed concentrate, this seaweed liquid is extracted at lower temperatures than other products, it also contains humic acid, which is a mined substance, that is somewhere between peat and brown coal, containing a rich abundance of prehistoric minerals and trace elements, a BFA (NASAA Lic. 450gm of Azomite, a mineral and trace element supplement for plants and animals. It is not a typical rock dust. It is a very complicated product in the sense that it contains 67 + chemical elements, most in an oxide form along with trace and rare earth minerals. The product is a 30 million years old natural volcanic ash, it has been subjected to rigorous testing and has been approved for use in large-scale Organic Plant and Livestock production in the US. Adding this to our fertilizer soup means that if the seeds didn't contain it, & the Seaweed/Humate didn't, then we certainly have it covered now.

450gm of Dolomite(finely crushed limestone a mix of calcium and magnesium) ensuring that your sprouts have a high level of Calcium and Magnesium as well as keeping the whole environment alkaline.

140gm of Magnesium Chloride

1ltr no-mess pouring bottle, we supply this so that you can use this bottle to apply a mixture of the Seaweed concentrate, Azomite, Dolomite and water, it is the best one we have found that allows you to poor small amounts without making a mess, you can also give it a swirl to mix up the ingredients before pouring without having it squirt out the top, we have found that all these little things make a big difference to your sprouting pleasure.

8ltrs of premium grade fine washed Loose Coconut Fibre, this mix is designed for growing seedlings which means it is fine textured without any lumps which makes it very easy to spread.
